[ENG] Heavy Rotation #2 - The Valentine's day playlist challenge by Music Directory
The Playlist Challenge
The trending topic of the month is the playlist challenge launched by Music Directory. The theme is Valentine's Day, so, in theory, it's all about music and chocolates. Things like, to quote some of the topics proposed by MD, the soundtrack of your wedding, which love songs you would like to be entertained with, what song reminds you of each lover you’ve had, and things like that. Reflecting on these ideas, a small worm began to dig into my enthusiasm and made its way into my first list of tracks, because lovers are not, evidently but not too much, all included in these categories.
For example, there are compulsive and obsessive lovers, those who would like to love but don't know how, and those who would like to be loved by those who don't know how to love and therefore are willing to risk a lot, perhaps too much. Apart from the latter, I wouldn't know if the others deserve a mention for Valentine's Day, but if we want to paint a realistic picture of "what is love", then we must include them in the playlist. After all, everyone can reach the tree of hearts, but the path that leads to it is arduous and not always easy. In short, all this fuss to say that I have added an out-of-competition category dedicated to blind love.
So let's get started. Happy reading and happy listening.
Andrea
N.B. I've attached the English translation of the Italian song lyrics. Unfortunately, my current knowledge of the English language has resulted, despite the help of the good Google Translator, in the translations losing much of the evocative power of the lyrics, the meaning of which still seems understandable.

♥List a song that reminds you of each lover you’ve had
My partner reads this newsletter, so it's good to let her know that I haven't had an excessive number of lovers. Indeed, for a count I wouldn't need all the fingers of one hand. Nevertheless, I have a song for this category even if it reminds me more of the emotional intensity of falling in love than a person. Every time I listen to it, I feel that fluttering in my stomach that inhibits reason and control of facial muscles, so the mere thought of our love imprints on our face the classic, indestructible silly smile and makes us feel like the knight in shining armor. And I, Veronica, my love, still feel it and would give without hesitation my kingdom for a kiss upon your shoulders and all my blood for the sweetness of your laughter.
♥List love songs you’d want to be serenaded with
Nuotando nell'aria by Marlene Kuntz
This noise ballad envelops you in an embrace of very dense sounds and comforting words, and whispers discreetly the idea that the desire to be loved is a bit like floating in the air holding your breath.
Falling Slowly by Glenn Hansard e Marketa Irglova
The simple fact that only love survives the falls is The Reason to seek it incessantly. And that which gives value to the proverbial candle. Among other things, this piece won the Oscar for best original song for the beautiful film Once, of which Glenn and Marketa are the main performers, after the music of course.
Hardly wait by P.J. Harvey
Mrs. Harvey has an immense talent for imprisoning emotions within sounds and making them scream. I have heard various interpretations of this song, but the one about concupiscence is dear to me.
Dentro Marilyn by Afterhours
She is here, she is here like radioactivity. Which penetrates, inexorably, and sickens. How beautiful this song is, no wonder our national Diva, Mina, wanted to reinterpret it.
♥List your break-up mixtape songs
There are basically two ways to deal with the issue of breaking up a relationship in the immediate aftermath. Unless you are anaffective and completely indifferent, you can wallow in regret or shout revenge.
-Regret
Black by Pearl Jam
Personally, I find this to be the most beautiful song ever written about the end of a love, or rather, about the aftermath of a breakup. I have never been able to find a word that is not true, so much so that it is always difficult to extrapolate a verse that best represents it. These words, however, always have the power to bend my knees under the weight of the memory of pain: I take a walk outside/I'm surrounded by/Some kids at play/I can feel their laughter/So why do I sear/Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin/Round my head/I'm spinning.
Perfect by Oh, are they?
This piece talks about cracks, more than fractures. In a decadent atmosphere that looms like a sword of Damocles, broken voices try in vain to warn of the rubble that accumulates slowly. But There's nothing left to say, and indeed the collapse comes without even arousing amazement.
-Revenge
There is little to comment on these two songs. They are explicit and leave no room for interpretations other than what they are, namely a gigantic and cathartic pop middle finger (because pop is much more vindictive than rock) waved in the face of the ex. I can only say that I would not have expected so much cruelty from Alanis Morisette, who looks so sweet.
Go to Hell by Go Radio
You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette
♥List songs for your wedding or commitment ceremony
In my opinion, the songs in this list do not necessarily have to be love songs. Yes, marriage is par excellence the crowning of a love, but its soundtrack should include the most important songs that have accompanied us in life up to that moment, even if there was South Of Heaven by Slayer with the blessing of reverend Camillo.
In fact, my wedding would sound rather metal: to accompany the bride to the altar (she will have to walk very slowly), Ikikäärme by Oranssi Pazuzu. And then I would like there to be Inquisition Symphony by Sepultura but don't worry, in the version by Apocalyptica. In my wildest dreams - because this is anything but a song to put at a wedding - This Love by Pantera starts from the chorus at the time to exchange the rings. To say goodbye to the rite, Orion by Metallica, and then off to the stars.
♥[Out of competition] A list of songs about blind love
La Ballata Dell' amore Cieco (o della vanità) by Fabrizio De André
The madness of love taken to the extreme, told by De André's burning poetry. And chilling is the contrast between the cheerful folk-chanson-punk tune and the infernal black hole that swallows the protagonists.
In My Darkest Hour by Megadeth
A warning about unilateral relationships in which one of the lovers is never there for the other, who paradoxically feels inadequate and guilty.
Lipstick With No Lips by Crippling Alcoholism
A person trapped in a destructive relationship, who paradoxically desires to love their partner despite their cruelty, reaches the point of "snorting what's left of his heart" in a squalid and dark parking lot like a suffocated gothic-pop lament, the last words of a murdered soul.
